Michael Jackson Greatest Hits

Is the artistic and musical accomplishments of Michael Jackson being wildly overrated?

lets face it he had some decent pop hits in the early 70s with songs like I Want You Back and ABC. But those were with Motown a label which in those days cranked out assembly line pop music more akin to bubble gum then other R&B labels such as Stax, Chess, or Atlantic After leaving Motown Jackson turned out a series of disco oriented albums which like most disco was more producer based than performer based.

And lets concede he has several great albums in the early 80s. But again much of their success had at least as much to do with their producer Quincy Jones as with Jackson. Still he deserves recognition for these albums but not the hysterically unhinged raves he’s been getting since his untimely death. There have been other entertainers pop musicians, comedians and others whose actual artistic accomplishments exceeded those of Jackson’s Bob Marley, Richard Pryor for example and barely received a scintilla of the attention Jackson has been getting.

Lets put things in perspective the man had a good career. He is a good entertainer but there was nothing exceptional about his music

Agree or disagree Why Or Why not?

Agree 100% he was awesome back in the day but i dont think he was even relevant in 2009. if he was how come until day before yesterday you hadnt heard his music on the radio since the early 90’s?? just a thought. i can think of a few musicans that had a ton of talent that died to soon and it was on the 10 o clock news and that was it. Dimebag Darrell was one of the greatest guitar players ever and nobody broadcast him for weeks after he was gunned down on stage during a concert.

he didnt sustain a carrer for decades he hasnt had a record that really went anywhere since the 80’s. People are still holding on to that. i give props for that but i just dont see how hes still relevant. i think its very sad when anyone dies i feel for his family and fans but its a little overboard at this point. when people talk about him they reference their childhood not today.

The media always blow someone’s influence way out of proportion when they die.

    agreed and DISAGREED.
im in the middle about micheal jackson.
i do believe that the news needs to put this on hold and talk about other issues,
but u have to remember that this wasnt a death of old age. this is a man dying at 50 years old who was one of the greatest pop stars in the world.
and if it is still being talked about by next week, then im going to start complaining,
but right now, i have nothing to complain about because i just switch to another channel and tune in as much as i can.

Disagree. His artistry and music touched most of the world – not just America. It takes a lot of talent to sustain that type of success worldwide. The media coverage is just a reflection on how big an impact he has had over generations worldwide.

I give credit to his musical achievements. The overreaction might be understandable given his death. If people are still talking about him like this 5 years from now, then yes it will be overrated and unfounded.

What really ticks me off though is that not only are his musical achievements being overrated, his personal crimes are being overlooked. He admitted to giving kids wine and saw nothing wrong with sleeping with them. People saying, "yeah but he didn’t have sex with them" is the equivalent of Bill Clinton implying oral sex wasn’t real sex. HE GAVE ALCOHOL TO AND SLEPT WITH CHILDREN! That people are celebrating this pedophile’s life and overlooking what he did to those kids is absolutely disgusting.
